In 2015, Hume City had a total of 56 schools (Government and Non-Government) operating across the municipality. Over the next 20+ years, as Hume continues to grow, it is anticipated that there will be a need for an additional 21 State Primary and Secondary schools to be delivered by the Victorian government in order to meet future population demands. This provides ample opportunity to develop after-school STEM-based programs for the students.
The number of primary school age children will increase from 19,623 in 2015 to 25,833 in 2025 and 32,388 by 2035. This is a total increase of 12,765 representing an increase of 65.1%.
Births in Hume City are predicted to increase by 145% between 2015 and 2035.
The number of secondary school age children will increase from 16,487 in 2015 to 19,910 in 2025 and 24,946 by 2035.
This is a total increase of 8,459 representing an increase of 51.3%
This provides the best opportunity to develop specialized STEM-based programs that would help the people residing in this region to get equipped to get jobs in the near future thus overcome the current unemployment rate of 33% highest in Victoria.
